PROJECT OVERVIEW

Under the stewardship of Project Manager Marc McManus, the Dorset County Hospital Pathology Laboratory underwent a comprehensive interior refurbishment aimed at modernizing its workspace to meet the evolving demands of clinical diagnostics. This transformative project encompassed a spectrum of upgrades and installations designed to enhance functionality, efficiency, and safety within the laboratory environment.

SCOPE OF WORK

  1. Heating and Cooling AC Systems:
The installation of state-of-the-art heating and cooling air conditioning systems was undertaken to ensure precise temperature control within the laboratory, fostering an optimal environment for the performance of sensitive diagnostic procedures and the preservation of specimen integrity.
  2. Upgrade to 3-Phase Electrical Power Distribution Systems:
A thorough upgrade of the electrical power distribution systems to 3-phase configurations was executed, bolstering the laboratory’s capacity to accommodate the power requirements of advanced diagnostic equipment and instrumentation while ensuring reliability and safety.
  3. New LED Lighting Scheme:
A comprehensive LED lighting scheme was implemented throughout the laboratory space, delivering superior illumination levels to enhance visibility and reduce eye strain for laboratory personnel, while also minimizing energy consumption and operational costs.
  4. Suspended Ceiling and Stud Wall Installations:
The installation of a new suspended ceiling system and stud wall partitions was meticulously carried out to optimize spatial organization, improve acoustic insulation, and facilitate the integration of essential utilities and services, contributing to an ergonomic and functional workspace.
  5. Bespoke Laboratory Trespa Benching and Under Counter Storage:
Custom designed Trespa benching solutions, augmented by strategically positioned under-counter storage units, were installed to provide durable, hygienic work surfaces and efficient storage solutions tailored to the specific needs of laboratory workflows, enhancing productivity and organization.
  6. 30-Minute Fire Doors & Frames:
In adherence to stringent safety standards, all existing doors and frames were replaced with 30-minute fire-rated counterparts, fortifying the laboratory’s fire suppression measures and safeguarding personnel and valuable assets in the event of an emergency.
  7. Laboratory Grade Vinyl Flooring:
The installation of resilient laboratory-grade vinyl flooring was carried out to withstand the rigors of heavy foot traffic and chemical exposure inherent in laboratory environments, ensuring durability, ease of maintenance, and a safe working surface for laboratory staff.
  8. Plumbing and Drainage Requirements:
Specialized plumbing and drainage systems were meticulously engineered and installed to accommodate the specific operational needs of pathology analyzers, facilitating efficient waste management and minimizing the risk of contamination or cross-contamination during diagnostic processes.
  9. HTM Compliant IPS Wash Stations:
Hygienic Technical Memorandum (HTM) compliant Integrated Plumbing Systems (IPS) wash stations were strategically positioned throughout the laboratory, equipped with advanced hygiene features to promote infection control and compliance with regulatory standards, thus ensuring the safety and well-being of laboratory personnel and patients alike.
