PROJECT OVERVIEW

Under the expert management of Project Manager Liam McManus, SRS completed a comprehensive refurbishment of the Pathology Laboratory at Homerton University Hospital. The project modernised the laboratory environment, enhancing workflow efficiency, safety, and compliance. The upgraded facility now supports high-quality diagnostic services in a space designed for functionality, hygiene, and staff well-being.

SCOPE OF WORK

LED Lighting Scheme – Energy-efficient LED lighting was installed throughout the laboratory to provide uniform illumination, improve visibility, and reduce operational costs, creating a bright and productive workspace.

Suspended Ceilings and Stud Walls – New ceilings and stud partitions optimised spatial layout, improved acoustic performance, and enabled seamless integration of essential services, contributing to a more organised and efficient laboratory environment.

Bespoke Laboratory Benching and Storage – HTM/HBN compliant Trespa benching and under-counter storage were custom-designed to the laboratory’s specifications, maximising workflow efficiency while maintaining high hygiene standards.

Laboratory-Grade Vinyl Flooring – Durable vinyl flooring was installed to withstand daily laboratory operations, offering a safe, resilient, and easy-to-clean surface that enhances infection control.

Specialist Plumbing and Drainage – Custom plumbing and drainage systems were installed to support pathology analyzers, ensuring reliable waste management and minimising contamination risks.

HTM Compliant IPS Wash Stations – Integrated Plumbing Systems (IPS) wash stations were installed to meet HTM standards, promoting rigorous infection control and safe hand hygiene practices for laboratory staff.

OUTCOME

The refurbishment delivered a modern, functional laboratory fully compliant with HTM/HBN standards. Workflow efficiency has improved through bespoke benching and optimised layouts, while new lighting, flooring, and wash stations enhance safety and hygiene. The hospital now benefits from a contemporary laboratory that supports staff productivity, ensures regulatory compliance, and maintains the highest standards of infection control. The project demonstrates SRS’s capability to deliver turnkey laboratory refurbishments with precision, on time, and within budget.
