West Cumberland Hospital Whitehaven

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Under the proficient leadership of Project Manager Alan Byrne, the Pathology Laboratory at West Cumberland Hospital Whitehaven underwent a comprehensive interior refurbishment to modernize its workspace and enhance operational efficiency. This ambitious project involved a multifaceted approach, encompassing upgrades to various systems and installations to ensure compliance with industry standards and create a conducive environment for laboratory staff to perform critical diagnostic procedures.

SCOPE OF WORK

  1. Heating and Cooling AC Systems:
State-of-the-art heating and cooling air conditioning systems were installed to regulate temperature levels within the laboratory, ensuring optimal conditions for diagnostic procedures and specimen preservation, while also providing a comfortable working environment for laboratory personnel.
  2. New LED Lighting Scheme:
An energy-efficient LED lighting scheme was implemented throughout the laboratory space to provide uniform illumination and enhance visibility for laboratory staff. The installation of LED fixtures not only
improved lighting quality but also contributed to energy savings and reduced operational costs.
  3. Suspended Ceiling and Stud Wall Installations:
A new suspended ceiling system and stud wall partitions were installed to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the laboratory space. These installations optimized spatial organization, improved acoustic insulation, and facilitated the integration of essential utilities and services, contributing to a conducive working environment.
  4. Bespoke Laboratory Trespa Benching and Under Counter Storage:
Customized HTM/HBN compliant Trespa laboratory benching and under-counter storage systems were supplied and installed to optimize workspace organization and hygiene. These bespoke solutions were tailored to meet the specific requirements of the Pathology Laboratory, enhancing workflow efficiency and promoting cleanliness.
  5. Laboratory Grade Vinyl Flooring:
Durable laboratory-grade vinyl flooring was installed to withstand the demands of daily laboratory operations, providing a resilient and hygienic surface that is easy to clean and maintain. The installation
of laboratory-grade flooring enhanced safety and hygiene standards within the laboratory environment.
  6. Plumbing and Drainage Requirements:
Specialized plumbing and drainage systems were installed to meet the unique operational needs of pathology analyzers. These systems were designed to ensure efficient waste management and minimize the risk of contamination or cross-contamination during diagnostic procedures, supporting the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  7. HTM Compliant IPS Wash Stations:
Hygienic Technical Memorandum (HTM) compliant Integrated Plumbing Systems (IPS) wash stations were installed to promote infection control and compliance with regulatory standards. These wash stations featured advanced hygiene features to facilitate effective hand
hygiene practices among laboratory personnel, contributing to a safe and
    hygienic working environment.
